HOW MUCH DO WE MEAN TO JESUS

Reading: Galatians 2:16-3:7

Text: John 15:13

"Greater Love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."

INTRODUCTION

[a] In this morning's meeting, we thought of a question which brought great challenge to us all;

"HOW MUCH IS JESUS WORTH TO ME?"

[b] We mentioned that He was only worth 30 pieces of silver to Judas, and then we made it personal by asking, " How much

am I showing He is worth to me, by what I give to Him in my weekly offering?"

[c] We mentioned, how the Bible teaches that 10 per cent of  everything we receive, already belongs to God, and by keeping it from Him, we are ROBBING HIM!

[d] Tonight, I want us to look at something which in a sense turns the tables and asks quite simply,

"HOW MUCH AM I WORTH TO JESUS?”

POINT 1

[a] In our Bible reading, Paul speaks in very personal terms in verse 20, of "The Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me."

[b] Often as Christians, we speak of finding Christ as a PERSONAL SAVIOUR!

Perhaps you've heard me mention before the Evangelist Billy Mullan, who said, "Put your arms around the Saviour and take Him home with you!"

[c] How do you judge what you are worth to a friend or a loved one?

Maybe they give you a hug, or send you letter, or a card with a romantic verse, or maybe even compose one themselves.

It seems that all of Burns love poems were composed with one or other of his lady friends in mind for inspiration.

[d] Throughout the world today, life has become so cheap. In so many places, people seem to have become an expendable

commodity.

[e] However, every person who was ever born, is deeply precious in the eyes of God!

[f] Perhaps we sometimes look at ourselves and wonder how God could love such as us - but hallelujah, He does - and His wonderful love cannot be measured!

[g] As the song says,

The Love of God is greater far,

Than tongue or pen can ever tell,

It goes beyond the highest star,

And reaches to the lowest hell.

POINT 2

[a] Although His love cannot be measured, we can see something of it's greatness and wonder, when we look at Calvary!

[b] No wonder John could say, in his first letter, chapter 4 and verse 19, "We love Him because He first loved us."

In other words, we respond to His love, and the actions of His love for us.

As Doreen Irvine, the converted Queen of Black Witches said, "I love Him much, because He has forgiven me much!"

[c] The wonder of it is, that you and I can look at the very vilest of people, who no-one would even want to rub shoulders with and we can say with absolute certainty -

THEY ARE PRECIOUS IN THE EYES OF CHRIST AND HE LOVES THEM!

[d] The vicious terrorist bombers and murderers are PRECIOUS IN THE EYES OF CHRIST!

[e] So often recently, we have heard of another terrible atrocity, in the horrific brutal murder of a lovely little girl or boy -

BUT I WANT TO TELL YOU SOMETHING TONIGHT - MY JESUS LOVES NOT ONLY THE LITTLE ONE WHO CAME TO SUCH A TERRIBLE END - BUT HIS LOVE IS GREAT ENOUGH TO STRETCH TO EVEN THE DEPRAVED BEING WHO DID THAT AWFUL THING!

WE HAVE A GOD WHO LOVES WITHOUT EXCEPTION!

[f] It is not an easy thing to have love for someone who hurts one we love! But God's love for us is not affected by our actions. Thank God for that! For it was our sin that was responsible for nailing Jesus to the Cross!

It tells us in Hebrews 6:6, that when we backslide into sin, then we are literally guilty of crucifying the Lord afresh!

YET HE LOVES US !!

[g] The hymnwriter pens those beautiful words which we sing so often,

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,

His power no boundary known unto men;

For out of His infinite riches in Jesus,

He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

POINT 3

[a] We are inclined to put limitations upon our love - but God's love is in no way restricted! Rather it is all encompassing!

[b] He loves us so much because we are so PRECIOUS TO HIM!!

[c] But HOW MUCH ARE WE WORTH TO THE LORD?

[d] You will remember that Jesus spoke of the soul of man being more precious than all of the riches of this world!!

"What shall it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul?"

[e] We were precious to Him long before we were born, for He has planned our lives away back in eternity.

[f] Let me read to you the Phillip's Translation of Romans 8:28-30

"Moreover, we know that to those who love God, who are called according to His plan, everything that happens fits

into a pattern for good. For God in His foreknowledge chose them to bear the family likeness of His Son, that He might

be the eldest of a family of many brothers. He chose them long ago, and when the time came He called them, He made

them righteous in his sight and then lifted them to the splendour of life as His Own Sons."

POINT 4

[a] HOW MUCH ARE WE WORTH TO CHRIST?

[b] We were WORTH ENOUGH for the Christ of God to take on the FORM of His OWN CREATION, and be born as a little

Baby in Bethlehem's manger.

[c] We were WORTH ENOUGH for Him to LIVE AMONGST US, suffering all of the SAME TEMPTATIONS, the

SAME PROBLEMS, the SAME HURTS, the SAME BODILY LIMITATIONS.

[d] As He lived life down here, He had the CONSTANT AWARENESS of His PURPOSE IN COMING, to provide Salvation for each one of us.

[e] He KNEW that the ONLY WAY in which this was possible was to be butchered on a CROSS. He was aware of that, LONG BEFORE He became a Baby in Bethlehem's manger!

[f] But even though He knew all of that, He still DECIDED THAT YOU AND I WERE WORTH IT ALL!!

HOW MUCH WE ARE WORTH TO JESUS?

OUR VALUE TO HIM SO MUCH GREATER THAN WE ARE CAPABLE OF UNDERSTANDING!

CONCLUSION

[a] As we BEHOLD CHRIST as He, in the words of the Apostle Peter, "BORE OUR SINS in His Own body on the tree," can we

for a moment doubt that we are PRICELESS in His sight - worth more than all the wealth of this world put together??

[b] As Jesus dies in agony there on the cross, we see Him fulfilling the purpose for which He was born into this world -

THE PROVISION OF SALVATION TO SINFUL MANKIND!

As the song in the Jesus Folk musical says,

He came to give us life in all it's fullness,

He came to make the blind to see;

He came to banish death and doubt and darkness,

He came to set His people free.

He liberating love imparted;

He taught men once again to smile;

He came to bind the broken hearted;

And God and man to reconcile.

[c] Whoever they may be, the message goes out to ALL in this world, they are WORTH SO MUCH to God, that CHRIST DIED

in THEIR PLACE on the cross, bearing their sin in His Own body!

[d] By COMING TO HIM, they can be TRANSFORMED and made different people - NEW CREATIONS!

[e] What a glorious message is ours to take to lost mankind!

What a privilege to be God's ambassadors with this wonderful message of the worth of every soul to God!

[f] Let us not neglect the work He has entrusted us to do, remembering how precious we too are in His sight!
