A peaceful church protest on Thursday night outside the venue
of a Psychic Fayre at the Clune Brae Hotel, Port Glasgow U.K.,
was so effective, that 'Infocall Universal', who arranged the
event, have threatened to sue the protesters, for 'loss of income'.
Mr Mullan, a director of the company, told an organizer, "You
have interfered with our legitimate business." The reply
he received was that when his 'legitimate business' was destroying
people's lives, then Christians had to give warning. He was told
that the psychics were using the devil's power, and as such, were
putting people who became involved, in great danger. "I
will be seeing my solicitor in the morning" said Mr Mullan.
A number of Christians from different churches in the area, gathered
to sing hymns, give out leaflets, and 'prayer walk' round the
hotel. "We have surrounded this place with a ring of prayer"
they said. Ages of those present ranged from teenagers to
a lady of 84
The hotel threatened to call the police, if the protesters didn't
leave the footpath outside the hotel grounds. Eventually the police
did arrive, but could do nothing, as no laws were being broken.
Major Victor Ross, commanding officer of the Port Glasgow Corps
of the Salvation Army, attacked the psychic fayre as, 'the
works of the devil', and 'the thin edge of the occult,
which is leading people into enslavement by Satan. People have
no idea what they're getting into, and it is well documented,
that great distress, and even mental illness, can follow in the
wake of such involvement."
Preaching to his congregation in the King Street citadel, he said,
"The Christian Soldier is at war with the forces of
evil, and we must stand up and be counted!"
In a leaflet he wrote, which was handed out during the Christian
picket of the fayre, he speaks about many being drawn into 'the
devil's web of deceit' through TAROT CARDS, FORTUNE
TELLING, OUIJA BOARDS, ASTROLOGY and other often seemingly
The Major also says in the leaflet, "THE LORD JESUS CHRIST
HAS DEFEATED THE DEVIL!" and further states, "ALL
WHO REPENT OF THEIR SIN AND TRUST HIM, CAN HAVE THEIR SINS FORGIVEN
AND ESCAPE FROM THE HOLD THE DEVIL HAS OVER THEIR LIVES."
The Major spoke of the Scriptural account of King Saul who in
1st Samuel chapter 28, went to consult a clairvoyant
at Endor, and thus encountered the fearful judgement of God, leading
to his own destruction. "Beware" said
the Major, "God does not view these things lightly!
They have the sting of eternal death in their tail!"
